We will share hope, build community, grow as faithful disciples, serve the needs of our community and world and magnify the Lord together with our gifts and talents; in worship.   Mission Statement Our mission is to Share the Good News of Jesus Christ with ALL who will hear, to Fellowship with ALL who will come, Teach ALL who desire to grow, Minister to ALL who call on us and to create a Worship atmosphere that is fulfilling and welcoming to ALL!   About Us  St. Matthew is a local congregation of the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church (CME). The CME church was founded December 16, 1870. Organized in Jackson, Tennessee by forty-one ex-slaves, the C.M.E. Church currently has more than 1.2 million members across the United States, and missions and sister churches in Haiti, Jamaica and fourteen African nations. The C.M.E. Church has a celebrated rich history of salvation, education and liberation, and its quadrennial theme, “An Essential Church: Poised for 21st Century Ministry,” defines the urgency to meet the challenges of today’s changing world. The CME church has over 800,000 members internationally. Our denomination is governed by the College of Bishops of the CME church; where as, our presiding bishop is Bishop Sylvester Williams, Sr.

St. Matthew had its beginning in 1918 as a result of a vision of Reverend W.S. Ferguson, our first Pastor. In September 1920, moving to 538 West Walnut Street, where they remained for 38 years before relocating to our present sight. St. Matthew is proud of its rich heritage and its Christian influence in the community and the National C.M.E connection. Throughout its history, St. Matthew has worked to live up to its calling as a home where the saints of God can put their gifts and talents to work.
